Modern Slavery and
Human Rights Statement

General

At SmartNest Systems Pty Ltd, we are committed to upholding human rights and taking proactive steps to identify, prevent, and address risks of modern slavery across our operations and supply chains. This statement is published in accordance with the Modern Slavery Act 2018 (Cth) and reflects our values of ethical conduct, sustainability, and transparency.

Who We Are

SmartNest Systems is an Australian-owned company based in Melbourne, Victoria. We design and deliver modular, sustainable building automation systems for commercial and residential environments. Our supply chain includes both domestic and international partners—ranging from electronics manufacturers and software providers to logistics and installation contractors.

Understanding Our Risks

We recognise that modern slavery can occur in many forms, including forced labor, debt bondage, and human trafficking. During the reporting period, we conducted a risk assessment of our supply chain, focusing on:

  • Geographic risk in regions with limited labor protections
  • Sector risk in electronics and manufacturing industries
  • Entity risk among subcontractors with opaque employment practices

Potential indicators of concern include withholding of wages or identity documents, excessive working hours, and lack of freedom of movement.

Our Actions

To mitigate these risks, SmartNest Systems has taken the following steps:

  • Introduced a Supplier Code of Conduct requiring compliance with human rights and anti-slavery laws
  • Embedded contractual obligations in supplier agreements to uphold ethical labor standards
  • Conducted initial supplier screening using public risk databases
  • Delivered internal training to raise awareness among procurement and operations staff
  • Established a grievance mechanism for anonymous reporting of concerns

Measuring Our Progress

We are developing key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess the effectiveness of our actions, including:

  • Percentage of suppliers assessed for modern slavery risk
  • Number of suppliers completing self-assessment questionnaires
  • Incidents reported and resolved through grievance channels

Our Commitment

SmartNest Systems is dedicated to continuous improvement. In the coming year, we will:

  • Expand our due diligence program to include site audits for high-risk suppliers
  • Collaborate with industry peers to share best practices
  • Engage with the Australian Anti-Slavery Commissioner and relevant stakeholders
  • Publish annual updates to this statement and maintain transparency in our efforts
